Groeger Special Tooling

2600 Bay Road, Redwood City, CA 94063

Joe at work This is Joe Groeger scoping out the condition of the large bearing from the rear-end of a 1966 BMW R69S (mine). It's an example of the type of things that happen Saturday mornings at Groeger Special Tooling. (He found indications of pitting on the race -- the bearing was replaced).

Join us as we talk about (and sometimes work on) old BMW motorcycles. The group meets just before 10:00 AM Saturday mornings at Groeger Special Tooling in Redwood City. We leave for breakfast between 10:00 and 10:30.

There's a mailing list for those who meet on Saturday. See the mail page for more information.

2008

In the last after breakfast ride of the year Chris took Simon over all of Old La Honda road. From there the three riders went west on 84 to the Pescadero turn off and stopped at the Harley Goat Cheese Factory in Pescadero.

Four rode after brunch across the Hayward/San Mateo Bay Bridge to Crow Canyon and Palomares Road for Niles Canyon. Then it was onto Calaveras Road around the reservoir dropping into the back of San Jose for home.

Joe rode his sidecar to breakfast this fine November morning. Temps in the 80s. Very hot sitting outdoors in the sun at the restaurant.

Marc writes a bit about the 2008 CCC&BBQ at San Antonio Lake. Lots of pictures. It was a cool night, but a side effrect of the camp site change meant there was a huge fire pit for the campers to sit around, swapping lies.

Dick supplies words and pictures of Chris Weld's Old Station ride. This ride was re-schedule from earlier this year when it had to be canceled due to Pat's broken shoulder. Looks like those who went had a good time.

Dick wasn't alone in providing words and pictures. You can see what Chris had to show and tell here.

Joe's in Germany, but riders still meet at the shop for a late breakfast and, sometimes, and after breakfast ride.

Jeff has been suggesting a picnic/get-together for vintage riders for quite a while. It came together Saturday, Aug 8th at Baker Beach in San Francisco. Click on the image to see photos taken at the get-together. The pictures Lars took can be seen on flickr.

Chris has uploaded his pictures of the ride to the BMWMOA '08 Rally as a Kodak gallery. Click on the "slideshow" button to see the pics. You do NOT need to register/log-in to see the images. [link]

Pictures taken by Chris on an after breakfast ride on a very hot Summer day.

Pictures of some of the bikes (and riders) at the 25th Annual Alex Silverio Memorial Picnic, June 1, 2008.

Bob and Simon, in legal parking spots, were spared the added brunch time expense of a parking ticket. I wasn't in the red, but was still cited for being in a cross hatched area instead of paying the meter. Apparently that is a crime in Redwood City!

See The Vintagent for a nice write-up of Joe at work making old parts better than new.

After Joe found the location of the dripping oil and tightened some of the screws on the case cover Reta took the bike on a test ride. I think things were better, but her pre-war harley was still dripping a bit. Maybe they are supposed to do that. Don't know.

Darryl's bike is missing something. Not sure what, but it just doesn't seem complete. Must be the missing exhaust. That's what he was working on before breakfast. The second picture was after breakfast when some of the group took a little ride. Both pics from Chris.

Chris provides this picture of Joe measuring the big end of a connecting rod to figure out what size roller bearings will be needed to put the crank together.

(Feb 2) Chris says:
11 souls eating outdoors this morning in spite of the weather forecast...many missed! You can be sure ALL will have jackets next week....
Feb 9 update: temp was pushing 70F today... no jackets needed.
